Eating healthy doesn't have to cost a fortune- Coscto finds

by - Tuesday, February 15, 2011

We visit our Costco warehouse store about once every month or two. Lately I have been really happy with some of the new things that I've been finding there. They are carrying more and more organic products and some new things that I haven't seen in other stores.

Here are a few of my recent favorite Costco finds:
  • Organic spinach
  • Organic apples
  • truRoots organic products- beans, lentils, rice, quinoa
  • Hannah organic hummus, single serving packs
  • Hadley pitted dates
  • Farro (a hearty Italian grain)
  • Garofalo organic whole wheat spaghetti
  • Organic Sunmaid raisins
  • Organic applesauce
  • Organic soymilk
  • Nature's Path organic Ancient Grains cereal
  • Ecover automatic dishwasher tablets
  • Kirkland enviromentally friendly liquid dish soap
  • Real maple syrup
  • Veggie Patch falafel chickpea balls (for quick lunches)
  • Marcona almonds- yummy salty/crunchy snack!
Do you shop in bulk or at a warehouse store? If so, what's on your shopping list?

  1. What a terrific and helpful post. I love Costco and are very happy with the wide variety of healthy items they sell.

  2. I can't always find organic apples at my Costco, but when I do I jump on that!

  3. Oooo, I'll have to look for farro next time! It's to bad that every Costco carries different items and you never know if it will be there the next time you go.
I have noticed more healthy foods lately tho! I guess healthy is the new black! ;)
I was just there yesterday and picked up some of those items along w Coleman's Organic Chicken at a great price! Roasted chicken and then home made broth. Mmmmm

  4. @Nancy- Thank you!

@Runeatrepeat- I never thought we'd get through one of those giant bags of apples before they went bad, but we do! So glad they have the organic ones (sometimes).

@Healthy Mamma- I have seen the farro there twice, hopefully it will be there for awhile! I also occasionally (but not always) find vanilla beans too- wish they had those all of the time!

  5. I've been vegetarian for almost 18 years, and LOVE that Costco "usually" has my basics: pure maple syrup, almond milk, tofu, quinoa, Bisquick (yes, vegan! :)) Morningstar & Boca products, organic/free trade coffee, and THANKFULLY back in stock the big bags of organic/non-GMO brown rice, as well as the vegetable options already mentioned. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. And obviously I go there more than 1 or 2 times a month...more like 2-4 times a month. ;) And yes, yes, yes, I TOTALLY got turned onto farro when I saw it at Costco! Whodathunkit. ;)

  6. Wow. Lucky you. We ONLY have Sam's Club and I just joined. But there's not a ton I can get there. They do have nuts in bulk, which is a big help, and broccoli, which I eat a ton of. BUT....most stuff there is so unhealthy...I can't believe people buy that stuff. Was quite disappointed with it. The only organic anything they had was some baby greens in a container. That's it. No vegetarian/vegan foods outside of produce, etc.

    Wish I had a Costco.
